Tree Removal Notification: Palliser Road Closures
Pine and Macrocarpa Tree Removal on Palliser Road
We want to advise you of upcoming work on Palliser Road. This work is set to start on Monday 10 May and last around five days. The work is to remove some trees from the above the road that have been identified as high risk.
This work forms part of Wellington City Council’s ongoing programme of high risk tree removals from the Town Belt.
The location of the trees is shown on the below aerial photograph:
Work hours and access
Crews will be working on the roadway between 6am and 6pm each day starting from Monday 10 May 2021. We expect to complete these tree removals within five days.
During work hours there will be temporary traffic management in place and access to the road will be closed to vehicles. In addition, the bus route will be altered and an alternate route in place. The following outlines the road closure.
· 7am-9am – stop/go through the work site – bus services continue as normal.
· 9am-4pm – full road closure – all bus services cancelled. Free shuttle service to operate on an hourly frequency.
· 4pm-5pm (or until works end) – stop/go through the work site – bus services continue as normal.
Pedestrians will have a separate temporary walkway to safely travel past the work site. Cyclists should either dismount and walk through the pedestrian walkway or stop at the temporary traffic signals and travel through on the green phase with motorists.
Safety
It is important you stay a safe distance away from the work and follow the directions of crews on site.
Noise
There will be woodchippers and chainsaws on site, so the work will be noisy at times. We will try to keep this to a minimum.
Public Transport Information
Please see Metlink.org.nz or call 0800 801 700 for more information on the shuttle bus service that will be replacing the Route 20 between 9am and 4pm each day. Please note – the shuttle service is not wheelchair accessible. If you have accessibility needs, please call Metlink on 0800 801 700.
Firewood and Mulch
The firewood will be removed from site and used to offset the cost of the project. All mulch will be reused around Wellington for tree planting projects and in Council gardens.
Thank you
We know these works can be disruptive for residents and businesses. We will try to finish the work quickly and with as little impact on you as possible. We appreciate your cooperation.
