Fast Forward Wellington - Free Speaker Event, Wednesday Sept 25th
Fast Forward Wellington - a choice beyond the traffic jam - is an alternative transport plan for Wellington created by transport planning expert Tom Pettit along with Generation Zero, a youth-led organisation working towards a carbon-zero New Zealand by 2050.
The plan emerged due to dissatisfaction with the current transport plan for Wellington and instead proposes a light rail system, safer Copenhagen-style cycleways, pedestrianised areas and a car-share system. It is not only economically feasible but will cut congestion, carbon pollution and cost.
Since launching this plan to the public last Thursday it has already had huge support, with a blog written by the Auckland Transport Blog and a mention in the Sunday Star Times.
Generation Zero is holding a speaker event called “Our Way or the Highway” about Fast Forward Wellington this Wednesday the 25th of September to The Rogue and Vagabond (18 Garrett Street, Te Aro) at 6pm. It promises to give an overview of the plan, explain it’s feasibility and discuss how it challenges some of the assumptions made in Wellington’s current proposed plan. Entry is free and nibbles provided.
In addition to this event, Generation Zero will also be providing a quick submission form for the Public Transport Spine Study to show support for Fast Forward Wellington. The submission form will be available on our website from Wednesday onwards.
