Anzac Day - Local Commemoration

In Hataitai at 10am, Cheryl Hollinger from the NZSO, will play the Last Post from her deck at the beginning of Rakau Road (opposite Hataitai School).  Commander Roger Havell RNZNVR, will then read the Ode to the Fallen, under Cheryl's flag, in both Maori and English. It would be their pleasure if you wanted to stand by your letterbox, in your bubble, at this time to commemorate the ANZACs with them.

In 2018 we commemorated the centenary of the end of WW1.  That year, local resident Louise Brockway researched the individual service history of 150 residents from Hataitai who had gone to WW1.

This year we have put together a display including three nurses and a small collection of servicemen on the railings in the Village and along the fence of the Hataitai Centre at 157 Hataitai Road.   Please note, these stories are spaced 2 metres apart.  Please consider your physical distancing while enjoying these special pieces of Hataitai history.

Let’s pay respect to those who fought for us, in our bubbles, in our own way.
